Full Circle

Last Monday, life came full circle.

On July 16, 1993, a kind of shy, blonde girl met a boy. A kind of shy, redheaded boy. We went on a double date with friends, people who very shortly after left our world.

And what a world we have created for ourselves. Ups and downs and all arounds, broken and fixed, old and new. Complete with fire and brimstone. Complete.

On the morning of the 19th anniversary of the day we met, we welcomed our son.

God's gift of Grace.

And he has brought us full circle.

Grace Quote

This quote resonated with me when I read it yesterday.

"Grace includes accountability, time for healing and learning, and moving forward, changed."

Does it speak to you, too?

Not a Minivan Mama

My husband said it best yesterday, I guess. "You're not a minivan mama. You never have been." He and our three oldest girls had just finished washing our truck.

A few months ago, we were driving with our family, plus the one extra friend, and noticed a pile of smooshed together girls in the farthest back seat of our van. This simply would not do. So off we went the following week, to explore even larger vehicle options for a family of seven.

Seven!

And we found a big, beautiful, black truck. With seating for eight. So we'll always have room for Gramma. And while I miss the push button sliding doors which made it easy for kids to get in and out, my husband is right. I just ain't a minivan mama. (And the girls have only fallen out of the truck a scant three times...)

All that's missing is the license plate frame that says, "Silly boys, trucks are for girls."

*** Oh! And for the nice person from the past who inquired last week about the fate of our previous van via a note on my truck windshield: Thank you for your continued concern about my family, but all is well with our old minivan. It's safely living with a friend now. ***

Throwing Stones

There are no such things as perfect people. Everyone messes up.

"..."Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone..." - John 8:7

There are a plethora of stones around. And a pile of things that are far too easily forgotten.

So Long, Brain Cells!

Today, I have the good fortune of joining my husband on a business trip. We're lucky to each have moms who will drop anything to watch our girls so we can have this time together.

This morning I woke and helped him get ready for his day of meetings. He is still there, two hours past the schedule, which I think is really good! I'm passing the time reading, napping, enjoying the quiet here at a small resort in New Hampshire.

I joined him for a quick breakfast this morning before he headed off. With a tummy full of French Toast (a breakfast favorite of mine), I returned to our hotel room after he headed off. Too full to return to sleep, I turned on the television.

And I lost brain cells that I won't ever get back. I tried for over 30 minutes to find something to watch, but as I took in some segment of Kelly Ripa and whomever, I was reminded of why I don't watch morning TV at home. I couldn't care less about the latest couple cut from Dancing with the Stars.

The television went off, and I picked up my book, a NY Times Best Seller a few months off the list. Then I indulged in a nap. Hopefully the quiet will help restore not only me, but those brain cells as well.

Mother's Day 2012

As usual, Mother's Day weekend was a whirlwind for us. Ballet recitals took precedence for not only the weekend, but the week. We are worn out, exhausted, with a house that is messy beyond any reason for it!

I was just lamenting with a fellow ballet recital mom at preschool pickup about how much recovery we have to do from this weekend. On the way home from school, this author and video popped into my head:

I had the opportunity a few years ago to meet the author, listen to a reading. It will remain one of my favorite memories, and one of my favorite books. I just rewatched the video.

Suddenly, I seem a little less worried about the mess and piles of laundry. We'll get it done. Lunch is finishing, and naptime is soon. I need to get a few snuggles in before we sleep.

One and the Same

Apparently, we had a lot to learn. So glad we did.
